CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE

Monday morning was a hectic rush of finding contractors and gathering yet another set of samples for clients. They were both finicky couples who had already changed their minds several times over the course of a few days. Before I knew what hit me, it was early afternoon and I was starving. Hunger didn’t stop me from working very often, but today, I was absolutely famished. Perhaps a late lunch visit with Charli would be a nice way to decompress for a bit.

Despite the personal issues I was still working through, I really did have a good time on our date. Very few people could get me to relax and have fun, so I was amazed at how easily Charli had accomplished the feat. I had managed to get through the evening with little thought about work or Cassie. Our kiss wasn't fireworks, but we did have a connection, so that was a start, right? Was it enough to build a long term relationship? Only time would tell, but if anyone could bring me to my senses and win my heart, I believed it would be the smart, beautiful, spunky blonde that kept challenging my comfort level.

I slipped through the door of The Arena unseen and hoped to catch her by surprise, but no such luck. As if she had a sixth sense, she spun around with a brilliant smile plastered on her face.

"Hey, good lookin'."

"Look who's talking?” I shot back with a wide grin of my own. A smile as bright as hers was contagious.

"What a nice surprise. I didn’t expect to see you today." She walked around the bar, her eyes giving me the once over before she leaned against the ledge beside me.

"Good to hear." I dipped my head, allowing a wall of hair to hide the light blush that threatened to take over. "I wanted to thank you again for the other night. I had fun." I peeked back up, meeting a knowing gleam in her eye. She was quite proud of herself.

"I'm happy to hear that. I had a great time too." Charli leaned in closer, flashing a flirtatious half-grin as she whispered, "Does that mean I get a second date, Ms. Kingston?" Her hand traced a small circle along my back before retreating.

The focused attention brought the heat back up my neck to settle in my cheeks. I cleared my throat and did my best to be flirty back. "I don't know. You did show me up at the batting cages so..." Her little make believe pout made me smile. "Yes. I'd like to go out with you again."

"Yes!" She pumped her fist into the air. The bartender walked by and she put up her hand for a high five.

He shrugged, having no clue what the high five was for, but gave her one anyway. Whatever the reason, I guess you go with what the boss wants.

I had to laugh at her enthusiasm. She was definitely a live wire. "But," I held up a finger adding a clause to our evening.
